During these lockdown days, I’ve found myself doing things that I wouldn’t normally do. Like deep cleaning my floors. I have to admit, I’m not the biggest fan of this chore. But hey, at least now I have a heavy-duty floor cleaner that makes it less of a task.

My kitchen floors are not too bad. Thanks to my wood laminate floors, a damp paper towel usually does the trick. But when it comes to the bathrooms, it’s a different story.

Living in a house full of guys, I’ve come to understand the infamous “boy bathroom smell.” It seems like it’s ingrained in the walls. I can wipe down every surface and scrub the floors, but that odor still lingers like an Oscar the Grouch version of a Glade air freshener. Thankfully, this floor cleaner just might be my salvation.

I came across this recipe on Food.com and it’s meant for heavy-duty cleaning, just like in a commercial kitchen. It’s designed to cut through grease and grime. And let me tell you, it worked wonders on my kitchen floor. But what caught my attention was the note in the description that said it “smells amazing.”

The problem with using ammonia-based cleaners or Pine-Sol in the bathroom is that they seem to make the urine smell even worse. Not to mention, why use expensive and harsh chemicals when you don’t have to? With this DIY cleaner, my bathroom smells great and the floors look clean. At least for the next 12 seconds.

Heavy Duty Floor Cleaner Recipe

  • 1/4 cup white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon liquid dish soap (I highly recommend blue Dawn, it’s a miracle in a bottle!)
  • 1/4 cup washing soda (can be found in the laundry aisle of the grocery store)
  • 2 gallons hot tap water
  1. Mix all the ingredients in a bucket until it becomes sudsy.
  2. Mop the area with the solution. There’s no need to rinse, but wiping down with a towel afterwards gives a nice clean finish.
  3. Note: This cleaner is not recommended for waxed floors as it may make the wax gunky.

With this DIY heavy-duty floor cleaner, you can tackle any surface in your home. It’s affordable, effective, and best of all, it leaves a pleasant scent behind. So, why not give it a try and see the difference it makes in your cleaning routine? Your floors will thank you!
